Allstate, Others Blame Texas Electric Co-Op For Wildfire

Law360, New York (February 8, 2013, 4:59 PM EST) -- Allstate Insurance Co. and 15 other insurers sued a Texas electric cooperative Thursday, saying the cooperative's alleged negligence contributed to a 2011 Travis County wildfire and entitles the insurers to reimbursements for payments made to victimized policyholders.

The insurers contend that poorly maintained electrical wires owned by the Pedernales Electric Cooperative sparked a wildfire that devastated the community of Spicewood, Texas, and say the cooperative acted negligently in the face of the region's unusually dry weather, according to a complaint filed in Travis County Court....
