Apple, Others Hit With Greeting Card Patent Claims

Law360, Los Angeles (February 11, 2013, 5:57 PM EST) -- Express Card Systems LLC sued Apple Inc. and others Monday in Texas federal court, saying the iPhone maker’s Cards app infringes two Express Card patents related to the printing of emailed greeting cards.

The Acacia Research Corp. filed the Apple complaint in tandem with similar complaints alleging violations of the same patents by other companies — including Staples Inc., Office Depot Inc., CafePress Inc. and Sam’s West Inc. — relating to those defendants’ online greeting card services.
