Ryanair Says EU Will Prevent €694M Aer Lingus Takeover

Law360, New York (February 12, 2013, 1:21 PM EST) -- Low-cost Irish airline operator Ryanair Holdings PLC indicated Tuesday that antitrust regulators in Europe intend to block the company's proposed €694 million ($931 million) acquisition of Aer Lingus Group PLC, a move that Ryanair said it would have no choice but to appeal.

Ryanair said in a statement that the European Commission has notified the company of plans to prohibit the Aer Lingus takeover. The European Union's antitrust watchdog purportedly explained its intentions during a "state of play" meeting with Ryanair on Tuesday morning.
