Euronet Says Rival Payment Service's Claims Preempted

Law360, Los Angeles (February 13, 2013, 6:43 PM EST) -- Electronic payments provider Euronet Worldwide Inc. asked a California judge on Wednesday to toss claims it interfered with competitor GroupEx Financial Corp.'s contracts with sales agents, saying the claims are preempted because they involve the same core allegations as GroupEx's trade secrets claim.

Euronet's attorney Michael Finnegan said the allegations GroupEx brought under the California Uniform Trade Secrets Act preempt all other claims "based on the same nucleus of facts." GroupEx claims Euronet used its trade secrets to solicit high-producing sales agents and GroupEx employees....
