Obama's Call For $9 Minimum Wage Triggers NY Bill Change

Law360, New York (February 14, 2013, 2:08 PM EST) -- An influential New York Democrat on Thursday bumped his proposed state minimum wage hike by 25 cents, to $9 per hour, in a legislative amendment following President Barack Obama's call for a national $9-per-hour minimum in his State of the Union address.

New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, a Democrat from Manhattan, changed his sponsored bill — currently pending in the Assembly's labor committee — after the president one-upped the proposal Tuesday in his annual address.
