Court Resists Altering $106M Verdict In Energy Patent Row

Law360, Houston (February 21, 2013, 8:53 PM EST) -- A Texas federal judge on Thursday signaled that he was unlikely to disturb a jury’s $106 million verdict against Ion Geophysical Corp. for infringing seismic surveying patents held by a subsidiary of oil field services provider Schlumberger Ltd.

U.S. District Judge Keith P. Ellison said he was reluctant to wade in to several motions for new trial, but that he was also “disinclined” to find Ion willfully infringed WesternGeco LLC’s patents, which could have tripled the judgment.
