Indictment Prompts Scruggs To Beat Hasty Retreat

Law360, New York (December 5, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a surprising twist, the Scruggs Law firm has decided to withdraw from the long-standing Hurricane Katrina litigation against major insurers, a week after famed plaintiffs' attorney Richard “Dickie” Scruggs and others were indicted for allegedly bribing a Mississippi state judge.

On Wednesday, the Scruggs Katrina Group posted a letter on its Web site announcing to clients that the Scruggs law firm had decided to back down from the case due to the criminal charges currently pending.
