Texas Agency Loosens Proposed Fracking Rules

Law360, Dallas (February 20, 2013, 6:12 PM EST) -- The Railroad Commission of Texas on Friday released revisions to a set of rules proposed to prevent fracking fluids from contaminating groundwater, easing requirements for well operators to install cement casing around drilling sites.

The proposed changes take into account oil and gas industry criticism that the initial rules, released in September, went too far beyond existing industry best practices, the commission said. The revisions are intended to “more clearly outline the requirements for all wells,” it said.
