Calif. Lawmaker Floats Genetic Privacy Bill Again

Law360, San Diego (February 21, 2013, 10:53 PM EST) -- A California lawmaker said Wednesday he had introduced a bill that would bar the unauthorized collection, analysis, transfer or storage of an individual’s genetic information.

State Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Pacoima, proposed S.B. 222 in light of advances in scientific research that will soon make genomic sequencing and testing more widely used in the health care industry and more affordable to patients. The move comes after a similar bill he floated last year stalled at the Senate appropriations committee in May.
