HHS Finalizes ACA Rule Eliminating Insurance Bias

Law360, New York (February 22, 2013, 3:49 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Friday issued its Affordable Care Act-mandated final rule on health insurance consumer protections, saying the provision would guarantee individuals and employers the right to purchase insurance, regardless of health status and free from discrimination.

The rule, to be published in the Federal Register on Monday, implements what the agency calls its five key consumer and employer protections for health insurance coverage, covering all insurance plans beginning on or after Jan. 1, 2014.
