CommScope Must Sell Interest In Competitor: DOJ

Law360, New York (December 6, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Justice sued wire and cable maker CommScope Inc. on Thursday to block its $2.6 billion purchase of communications equipment maker Andrew Corp., just as it offered the two companies the chance to give up their interest in a competitor to complete the transaction.

According to the suit filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the acquisition as initially planned would have trampled competition in the $500 million market for drop cable, the coaxial cable that cable television companies...
