Bank Says BNP Poached Trade Secrets, Employees

Law360, New York (December 7, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Thomas Weisel Partners LLC's securities research subscription service has sued French banking giant BNP Paribas for allegedly poaching one of its most valuable employees – and the trade secrets it needed to lure away more Thomas Weisel employees.

The San Francisco-based investment bank filed its suit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on Thursday, decrying what it called “a classic case of an illegal raid on a competitor with the intention of misappropriating an ongoing business,” which ended up shutting down...
