Doc Says Blue Cross Punished Him For Patient Advocacy

By Matthew Heller (February 26, 2013, 8:32 PM EST) -- Anthem Blue Cross barred a Los Angeles urgent care physician from its provider network because he was a "fighter" who put patient care before profits, the doctor's attorney told a jury Tuesday in his suit alleging the insurer wrongfully denied his application to join the network.

Dr. Jeffrey Nordella's attorney described Blue Cross's decision to exclude him from the network in March 2010 as retaliation for advocating for patients when he was a network provider from 1990 to 2003. Nordella sued Blue Cross in August 2010 for violating his right to fair procedure, saying he met the criteria of its credentialing...
