DOJ Won't Challenge AUO $500M Price-Fixing Fine

Law360, New York (February 27, 2013, 2:02 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Justice dropped its appeal of AU Optronics Corp.'s $500 million price-fixing fine Tuesday, leaving the Ninth Circuit with challenges from the company and two executives to the convictions meted out in the liquid crystal display cartel case.

The antitrust watchdog had lodged notices of appeals of the sentences handed out to AUO and its U.S. subsidiary and two executives — former President Hsuan Bin Chen and former Vice President Hui Hsiung — but never filed a formal appeal with the circuit court....
