Former Massey Exec Cops To Compromising Mine Safety

Law360, Los Angeles (February 28, 2013, 7:36 PM EST) -- A former Massey Energy Co. executive pled guilty Thursday to charges that he conspired to violate federal mine health and safety laws at several of the company's West Virginia coal mines and concealed the violations from inspectors.

David C. Hughart, the former president of Massey's Green Valley Resource Group, was first charged in November in connection with an ongoing investigation of Massey, which has been in authorities' crosshairs ever since the April 2010 blast at its Upper Big Branch mine in West Virginia killed 29 workers....
