Transocean, Halliburton Say BP Should Pay Deepwater Costs

Law360, New Orleans (March 1, 2013, 7:40 PM EST) -- As the first week of a heated trial over liability for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill wrapped up, Transocean Ltd. and Halliburton Co. argued in Louisiana federal court filings Friday that BP PLC should foot the bill for any damages against the rig owner and cement contractor.

In separate motions, Transocean and Halliburton alleged BP’s admission to lying about the rate at which oil flowed from the Macondo oil well amounted to a “superseding cause” that should reduce or eliminate their liability for the April 2010...
