Iranian, American Going To Prison Over Aircraft Export Plot

Law360, New York (March 5, 2013, 12:52 PM EST) -- An Iranian-American and an Iranian national have been sentenced in Kentucky federal court to serve prison terms for taking part in a scheme to export aircraft parts and helicopters to Iran in violation of a U.S. embargo, prosecutors said Monday.

Louisville, Ky., resident and U.S. citizen Behzad “Tony” Karimian, 52, was sentenced to 46 months in prison, while Iranian citizen Hamid Asefi, 67, received a prison sentence of 23 months, according to federal prosecutors. The men pled guilty Dec. 3 to orchestrating a scheme to avoid...
