Tech Giants Clash Over MP3 Licensing Deals

Law360, New York (October 11, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- French electronics maker Thomson SA is escalating the patent battle over its MP3 players and set-top boxes, filing international countersuits against an Italian company for allegedly abusing its licensing rights.

Italian licensing company Sisvel SpA and its Virginia-based partner Audio MPEG Inc. sued Thomson in May after negotiations to renew their agreements collapsed.

The suits were filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia as well as in Mannheim, Germany and Milan, Italy.
