More Calif. Technology Employees Will Be OT Exempt

Law360, New York (December 14, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Beginning Jan. 1, 2008, many California workers in the computer software and information technology industries may become exempt from the state's overtime law. Since 2001, Labor Code section 515.5 has provided that highly skilled, highly paid computer professionals are exempt from the state's overtime laws.

To be classified as exempt, an employee must earn a minimum hourly wage that is adjusted annually to keep pace with inflation. (Even if the employee is paid a flat salary, the salary must still equate to the minimum hourly wage.)...
