Calif. City Officials Put Back Under Fire For Big Paychecks

Law360, Los Angeles (March 20, 2013, 7:24 PM EDT) -- A California appeals court on Wednesday revived the state attorney general’s civil suit against Bell, Calif., city administrator Robert Rizzo and other officials for allegedly paying themselves excessive salaries, the same day the city’s former mayor and four legislators were found guilty for their roles in the scandal.

The three-judge panel reversed a trial court's March 2011 decision that dismissed the suit and held that the Bell officials had legislative immunity because public servants can decide their own compensation. According to the appeals court, California Attorney...
