HP, Staples Sued Over Ink Cartridge Deal

Law360, New York (December 18, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Computer printer manufacturer Hewlett-Packard Co. and office supply chain Staples Inc. have been hit with a proposed class action alleging the companies entered into an illegal agreement that limited competition in the inkjet printer cartridge market.

Inkjet printer owner Ranjit Bedi filed suit against HP and Staples in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts Monday, on behalf of a class of people who purchased HP inkjet cartridges from Staples after the retail chain stopped selling its own brand of HP-compatible cartridges.
