Pfizer Sues To Block Lupin's Generic Bladder-Control Drug

Law360, New York (March 27, 2013, 5:26 PM EDT) -- Pfizer Inc. has launched suit in New Jersey federal court accusing generic-drug maker Lupin Ltd. of infringing Pfizer's patents for the overactive-bladder drug Detrol LA by seeking federal approval to make a generic version before the patents expire.

Pfizer and its subsidiaries Pharmacia & Upjohn Co. LLC and Pfizer Health AB claim Mumbai, India-based Lupin Ltd. and its subsidiary Lupin Pharmaceuticals Inc. have infringed on two Pfizer patents for Detrol by filing an abbreviated new drug application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for a generic extended-release version, according to the March 21 complaint.
