Brooke Astor's Son Loses Appeal Of Fraud Conviction

Law360, New York (March 26, 2013, 3:34 PM EDT) -- A New York state appeals court on Tuesday upheld the convictions of the son of deceased philanthropist Brooke Astor and a lawyer for their parts in a scheme to steal her fortune, which included diverting money away from charities and forging her signature.

Astor’s son Anthony Marshall was convicted in December 2009 on 14 counts, including first degree grand larceny and first degree scheme to defraud, after jurors found he had exploited his mother’s deteriorating mental state to increase his inheritance. He appealed the verdicts, arguing...
