Crown Royal Maker Sues Over 'Crown Club' Whiskey

Law360, New York (March 27, 2013, 1:23 PM EDT) -- The makers of Crown Royal whiskey claim a smaller rival is selling liquor that illegally copies the name and distinctive velvet bag packaging of the well-known Canadian whiskey, according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday in Texas federal court.

The U.S. subsidiary of global beverage giant Diageo PLC says Texas liquor distributor Mexcor Inc. is misleading consumers by selling "Crown Club" whiskey in small bags that are similar to the purple drawstring sacks used to package Crown Royal.
