Food Safety Group Demands Deadlines For FDA Rules

By Beth Winegarner (March 27, 2013, 4:19 PM EDT) -- The Center for Food Safety on Wednesday urged a California federal judge to impose and enforce deadlines for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to implement regulations aimed at making the national food supply safer, arguing there is no dispute that the FDA missed deadlines imposed by Congress.

The nonprofit says Congress explicitly mandated that the FDA implement provisions of the 2011 Food Safety Modernization Act that would regulate farms, food imports, food transportation, and the analysis of human and pet foods by deadlines in October 2011 and January and July 2012. But the FDA missed those deadlines, the group says....
