Sprint To Cut China Ties In $20B SoftBank Deal

Law360, New York (March 29, 2013, 4:21 PM EDT) -- Sprint Nextel Corp. and SoftBank Corp. told the U.S. House Intelligence Committee they would steer clear of equipment from manufacturers scrutinized for their alleged ties to the Chinese government after they seal their proposed $20.1 billion tie-up, a legislator said Thursday.

U.S. regulators have expressed concern mainly over the companies' ties to Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., one of China's biggest phone-equipment suppliers. Watchdogs have put a greater emphasis on dealmakers' relationships with Chinese companies in recent years amid growing concerns over high-tech spying.
