Texas Senate Committee Mulls Bill Protecting LGBT Workers

Law360, Dallas (April 3, 2013, 3:27 PM EDT) -- Gay rights advocates on Wednesday asked a Texas Senate committee to pass the Fair Employment Act, which would prevent Texas employers from discriminating against workers on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

The Senate Economic Development Committee did not act on S.B. 237, leaving the bill pending after hearing testimony from advocates who say it’s time for Texas to protect gay, lesbian and transgender employees who want to work without fearing they could lose their jobs simply because of their sexual orientation.
