Sunland Sued Over Salmonella-Tainted Peanut Butter

Law360, Chicago (March 29, 2013, 5:49 PM EDT) -- Gourmet chocolates producer Swain Creations Inc. sued Sunland Inc., the peanut products maker linked to a salmonella outbreak last year, in California federal court Thursday for allegedly distributing contaminated peanut butter that Swain asserts has caused it more than $1 million in damages.

Sunland became the first company to have its registration suspended by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in November after that agency linked it to a salmonella outbreak that ultimately sickened at least 42 people in 20 states. The FDA said at the...
