Medicare Miscalculation Cost Pa. Hospitals $1.8M, Suit Says

Law360, Philadelphia (April 2, 2013, 6:32 PM EDT) -- Two western Pennsylvania hospitals filed suit against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Friday, alleging they’d been shorted more than $1.8 million in Medicare reimbursements after the government failed to accurately calculate the number of low-income patients they treated.

In a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Erie, St. Vincent Health Center and Monongahela Valley Hospital said that the department had arbitrarily excluded a group of low-income Pennsylvanians receiving assistance from the state’s Medicaid program from the formula used to determine the hospitals’...
