UN Passes Arms Treaty To Limit Sales To Rights Abusers

Law360, New York (April 2, 2013, 5:26 PM EDT) -- The United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday approved a first-of-its-kind global treaty to regulate the multibillion-dollar weapons trade, establishing a set of common standards to control the movement of an array of small arms and military vehicles internationally.

Member states voted 154-3 in favor of the Arms Trade Treaty, which seeks to limit the transfer of weapons to countries accused of human rights abuses, according to the U.N.'s news service.
