Tesoro Pays $11.6M To Settle Worker Meal Break Action

Law360, Los Angeles (April 5, 2013, 2:54 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge Friday preliminarily approved Tesoro Refining & Marketing Co.’s $11.6 million settlement with a class of more than 700 Golden State refinery workers who claim they were denied proper meal breaks on long shifts, finding the deal is fair and reasonable.

At a hearing in Los Angeles, U.S. District Judge Dolly M. Gee gave her preliminary blessing to the deal, ruling that it was the product of “vigorous arm's-length negotiations that occurred between the parties.”
