Senate Confirms Mary Jo White As SEC Chairman

Law360, New York (April 8, 2013, 4:04 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Senate on Monday confirmed Mary Jo White as chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, officially vaulting the former federal prosecutor and Debevoise & Plimpton LLP partner into the role of top national securities watchdog.

The Senate approved White’s nomination through a unanimous-consent vote in order to expedite the proceedings. She replaces current SEC Chairman Elisse Walter, who took the helm after Mary Schapiro stepped down from the post in December.

Walter praised White in a brief statement Monday.
