Agrium Beats Jana Shakeup Plan In Shareholder Vote

Law360, New York (April 9, 2013, 5:01 PM EDT) -- Shareholders in Canadian fertilizer company Agrium Inc. on Tuesday voted to appoint a full slate of board members handpicked by the company, beating out a hotly contested shakeup plan proposed by activist hedge fund Jana Partners LLC.

The final tally came a day after Jana declared a partial victory in the ongoing dispute between the firms, saying it had expected two of its five nominees to win investor approval. Jana has accused Agrium of convincing shareholders to revoke their votes in support of the hedge fund,...
