Taxpayers May Reap $51B Profits In Fannie, Freddie Bailout

Law360, New York (April 10, 2013, 8:31 PM EDT) -- Taxpayers may reap some $51 billion in profits by 2023 from the federal bailout of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in the wake of the subprime mortgage crisis, according to budget projections Wednesday by the White House.

The U.S. Treasury is expecting projected dividends of some $183.3 billion from January 2013 to 2023, according to the White House economic analysis released Wednesday.
