Treasury To Audit $1B Fla. Mortgage Assistance Program

Law360, New York (April 12, 2013, 4:03 PM EDT) -- The federal government will investigate Florida's $1 billion mortgage assistance program after U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., alerted federal officials about potential mismanagement within the program, Nelson said Thursday.

A U.S. Treasury Department official told Nelson that the office would audit the Florida program after Nelson sent a letter in March based on allegations that people convicted of felonies and child pornography possession have received assistance under the program, while an overwhelming majority of applicants have been turned down.
