EU Court Nixes Copyright Royalty Antitrust Decision

Law360, New York (April 12, 2013, 5:06 PM EDT) -- A European Union court on Friday overturned part of a European Commission decision finding that several copyright royalty collecting societies ran afoul of competition law through allegedly restrictive rights agreements.

The EU General Court annulled part of a commission decision that found members of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers, or CISAC — a group of associations that manage copyrights and collect royalties for musicians — engaged in a “concerted practice” that restricted competition, according to the instant ruling.
