Farmworker Citizenship Deal Clears Way For Immigration Bill

Law360, New York (April 15, 2013, 1:05 PM EDT) -- A group of U.S. senators plans to unveil this week a long-awaited bill seeking to overhaul the country's immigration laws, after employers and labor groups announced Friday they had reached an accord on a system that provides a pathway to citizenship for immigrant farmworkers.

The agreement, which resolves a key sticking point in negotiations over a bill, includes provisions on farmworker wage levels, caps on agricultural guest worker visas, gives protection for U.S. workers, and provides a separate process toward legalization and citizenship for farmworkers. The...
