Blue Cross Settles With Doctor In Network Exclusion Case

Law360, Los Angeles (April 12, 2013, 8:42 PM EDT) -- Anthem Blue Cross on Thursday settled a lawsuit alleging it illegally excluded a doctor from its provider network, avoiding a trial on punitive damages that could have added to a jury's $3.8 million compensatory damages award in only the second such case to reach a verdict.

The settlement came three days after the Los Angeles Superior Court jury found that Blue Cross violated Dr. Jeffrey Nordella's right of fair procedure when it denied his application to join the network in March 2010.
