Fla. Nursing Home Development Bill Clears Senate Panel

Law360, New York (April 16, 2013, 2:44 PM EDT) -- A controversial bill that would ease Florida zoning laws and spur new nursing home developments, which have long been under a statewide moratorium, passed the state Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday despite concerns that the legislation would wrongfully benefit certain developers.

Passing the panel in a 6-3 vote, S.B. 1482 would allow nursing homes to be built in areas with large elderly contingents that make up more than 25 percent of the community, but which have an inadequate number of nursing home beds.
