Texas Lawmakers Weigh Bill To Preserve Windstorm Insurer

Law360, Houston (April 16, 2013, 10:41 PM EDT) -- Texas lawmakers on Tuesday were urged to adopt legislation designed to revitalize the state’s troubled windstorm insurance pool by forcing insurers and policyholders throughout the state to contribute to the insurer of last resort for coastal counties.

Rep. Todd Hunter, R-Corpus Christi, told the House Insurance Committee that H.B. 2352 would help stabilize the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association by imposing surcharges on policies statewide and assessments on insurance companies to shore up the state’s dwindling catastrophe reserve fund.
