Insurer Pounces To Protect 'Wild Kingdom' Trademark

Law360, New York (April 17, 2013, 5:44 PM EDT) -- Mutual of Omaha Insurance Co. on Wednesday slapped a carpeting and rug manufacturer with a lawsuit that claims the manufacturer's "Wild Kingdom" line of carpets infringes Mutual of Omaha's trademarks for the "Wild Kingdom" television program it has sponsored since 1963.

The Nebraska federal court suit said Couristan Inc.'s use of the "Wild Kingdom" tag is likely to make consumers think Couristan's "safari-inspired" carpets are affiliated with the television show, which documents wildlife in its natural habitat and promotes environmental conservancy.
