Univ. Of Ala. Study Caused Infant Deaths, Suit Claims

Law360, Los Angeles (April 18, 2013, 4:17 PM EDT) -- The University of Alabama’s institutional review board was hit Thursday with a putative class action on behalf of infants born with low birth weight who participated in a study at the university, claiming some patients died or suffered permanent neurological and vision issues.

The lawsuit claims the University of Alabama’s study investigating treatments for low–birth weight babies was “unethical” by design. The suit comes just more than a month after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office for Human Research Protections found the study...
