Bill Introduced To Shorten Term Of Auto Part Design Patents

Law360, New York (April 24, 2013, 8:01 PM EDT) -- A bill that would significantly reduce the term of design patents on auto parts used in collision repair, which proponents say would ensure competition in the auto parts market, was reintroduced in both houses of Congress Tuesday.

The legislation, known as the Promoting Automotive Repair, Trade and Sales — or PARTS — Act, H.R. 1663 and S. 780, would reduce the term of design patents for collision repair parts from 14 years to 30 months.
