NY Turns To Insurers To Battle Meningitis Outbreak

Law360, New York (April 24, 2013, 5:37 PM EDT) -- New York's insurance regulator on Wednesday directed health insurers to get the word out to policyholders and doctors that insurance covers a vaccine that prevents a new and deadly strain of meningitis, following a recent outbreak that has alarmed health officials.

State law requires health insurance plans to cover immunizations for meningitis, which are effective against an especially lethal strain that has mostly afflicted men who have sex with men, the New York Department of Financial Services said.
