Obama Taps NC Mayor As Transportation Head

Law360, New York (April 29, 2013, 10:21 PM EDT) -- President Barack Obama on Monday nominated Charlotte, N.C., Mayor Anthony Foxx as the next secretary for the U.S. Department of Transportation after current chief Ray LaHood announced his exit in January, as the administration signaled a push to ramp up infrastructure investments. 

In remarks announcing the nomination, Obama touted Charlotte’s infrastructure achievements under Foxx, who announced in September that Charlotte’s $1.2 billion light-rail extension project would receive an additional $580 million from the Transportation Department.
