Volvo Owes $8.6M In Leg Injury Suit, Appeals Court Says

Law360, New York (April 30, 2013, 5:56 PM EDT) -- A New York state appeals court on Tuesday upheld the bulk of an $8.75 million verdict against Volvo Car Corp. in a suit brought by a man who lost his leg after being hit by a Volvo that was missing a clutch starter safety switch, cutting only $170,000 from the award. 

Volvo had appealed the verdict, arguing the trial court incorrectly denied its motion for a directed verdict because there was insufficient evidence supporting plaintiff Manuel Reis’ negligent design claim, but the appeals court disagreed....
