EEOC Lands $240M Win For Disabled Workers In Abuse Case

Law360, New York (May 1, 2013, 4:53 PM EDT) -- An Iowa federal jury on Wednesday ordered Hill Country Farms Inc. to pay $240 million in damages to turkey plant workers with intellectual disabilities who the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission claimed were severely abused and and paid significantly less than their nondisabled counterparts.

The jury awarded $7.5 million dollars to each of the 32 individuals on whose behalf the EEOC brought the case, making for a total award of $240 million against the now-defunct Hill Country Farms, which did business as Henry’s Turkey Service....
