Amaranth Disputes CFTC's Manipulation Charge

Law360, New York (January 11, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Amaranth Advisors LLC insisted Thursday that the Commodity Futures Trading Commision's civil complaint failed to show that the defunct hedge fund's trading of energy futures constituted market manipulation, and asked a federal court to toss its enforcement action altogether.

Amaranth and its former head energy trader both filed memoranda accompanying their motions to dismiss the suit with prejudice and without leave to replead in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, in which the CFTC sued them in July 2007.
