Cisco, Sprint, BT Among Cos. Sued Over Router Patent

By Jonathan Randles (May 6, 2013, 5:59 PM EDT) -- Cisco Systems Inc., Sprint Nextel Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co. and U.K.-based BT Group PLC were among more than a dozen businesses accused in lawsuits filed Friday in Delaware of offering routers, Ethernet switches, services and other products that infringe a Virginia-based company's patent.

Relay IP Inc. filed as many as 17 patent infringement lawsuits alleging infringement of U.S. Patent Number 5,331,637. The patent is related to Protocol Independent Multicast-Sparse Mode standards for multicast routing. The lawsuits seek unspecified monetary damages for the alleged infringement and other remedies.

Companies also sued by Relay IP on Friday include Bloomberg LP, Hitachi Cable America Inc....
