Olive Oil Co. Must Recall Or Relabel Mislabeled Products

Law360, New York (May 7, 2013, 7:43 PM EDT) -- A federal judge on Monday ordered olive oil manufacturer Kangadis Food Inc. to either recall or relabel its products that were advertised as 100 percent pure olive oil but were, in fact, a different olive-based product.

The preliminary injunction was sought by the North American Olive Oil Association, which sued Kangadis in February under the Lanham Act, alleging the company intentionally and unlawfully misbranded pomace — an industrially processed oil produced from olive pits, skins and pulp — as “100 percent pure olive oil.”
